I’m excited to share that Timur and the Dime Museum will present my piece Collapse at BAM on September 17-19!
Refractions v1
2015 has been a whirlwind thus far! I’ve been recording Collapse with TDM and playing on the east coast tour, including a show at Joe’s Pub as part of the Prototype Festival.
Unrelated to TDM, here is a new piece I’ve been working on, for music box movement and electronics:
Support Imminent COLLAPSE Album!
Timur and the Dime Museum is making an album of COLLAPSE!
This past spring, I premiered COLLAPSE with Timur and the Dime Museum at REDCAT, and it traveled to Miami Light Project and Operadagen Rotterdam. Developed by Beth Morrison Projects, one of the leading U.S. producers of contemporary music works, COLLAPSE is a piece that I wrote as a “post-ecological requiem.” Each song is about a different man-made natural disaster, following the traditional form of a requiem.
The live show was transformed into an amazing multimedia experience with costumes and interactive video, and I was really proud of how it turned out. We’ve gotten a lot of great press, including the LA Times, Miami Herald, Financial Times, LA Weekly, and others. COLLAPSE will continue in 2015 with shows in New York and beyond.
In order to fully realize this piece, we are creating an album of COLLAPSE! We’re trying to do it right, which involves more of a budget than our previous recording projects. From start to finish, the process will cost us over $13,500. For independent artists like us, this is something of a challenge. So, we’re turning to our friends and supporters to help fund this project! The future of COLLAPSE is in your hands. All money raised will be used to create an amazing recording of COLLAPSE, helping spread awareness of the important environmental issues addressed in the piece.
All donations to COLLAPSE are tax-deductible, and we have lots of perks and rewards. Payments can be made via credit card, paypal, or check.
Our deadline for raising this amount is December 7! Please check out our fundraising page and consider supporting COLLAPSE:

This is a pivotal moment in scale for me and for TDM, and I’m hoping you will be able to help us transition towards bigger and even more exciting projects.
Check out this great video Timur made in support of our fundraiser!
AIR at Headlands Center for the Arts
This fall, I’ll be an artist in residence at the Marin Headlands Center for the Arts.
Other than that, lots of things are in development! Getting ready to do some recording with Timur and the Dime Museum, and lots more…
Trailer for COLLAPSE
Here is the video trailer for my post-ecological requiem, COLLAPSE, which recently premiered at REDCAT! We recently performed it at Miami Light Project, and will soon be bringing it to Operadagen Rotterdam.
Collapse, March 27-29 at REDCAT!
Composed by Daniel Corral and produced by Beth Morrison Projects, COLLAPSE is a vividly sardonic show with interactive visuals and satiric songs about the environmental catastrophes caused by humans.

Envisioned as a theatrical requiem, different stories are refracted through the hauntingly eclectic sound of the four-member band through accordion/keys, bass, guitar and drums. The vibrant voice of the Kazakh-American tenor TIMUR, playing the role of Moloch, a God of human sacrifice, brings urgent dramatic figuration to laments of environmental degradation past, present and future. Composer Corral’s approach to COLLAPSE focuses on reimagining the traditional requiem form into a band-driven song cycle for the 21st century.
Live-mixed projections by the award-winning video artist Jesse Gilbert (World Technology Network fellow), and costumes of the LA fashion designer Victor Wilde of the Bohemian Society (Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2014), will further create a raucous portrait of the human-made impact on the planet.
Following the world-premiere at REDCAT, Collapse will travel to Miami Light Project and Operadagen Festival in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
COLLAPSE: a Post-Ecological Requiem
I’m currently writing a piece I’m calling a “post-ecological requiem,” based on a traditional requiem form. Each song is based on a different man-made natural disaster.
In early 2014, Timur and the Dime Museum will do workshops of this piece at REDCAT, Operadagen (Rotterdam), and the Miami Light Project.
In the meantime, head over to Bandcamp to listen to our recent album, X-Ray Sunsets!
